Lucky Red Series

Every culture has its good luck symbols.  Whether its amulets, four leaf clovers, lucky pennies, etc.  This series of paintings explores some of my own beliefs and those of others. Lucky Red is the tie throughout the series.

Lucky Red #1

This first painting in the series was just to challenge myself with dealing with the color red.  Red is often a difficult color to paint and there are several different shades of red here.  The two glass paperweights contain fish which are often considered good luck symbols as is the lucky Buddha, the Chinese coins, and the bamboo plant. Notice the winning lottery ticket in the background. I've also tied everything together with the blue ribbon with sparkles which I actually won at a party.

Lucky Red #2

This painting introduces a couple of figures in the shape of the jade dragon and the sleeping ceramic plant.  Reusing the lucky bamboo plant and one of the fish glass paperweights used in Lucky Red #1.  Also, I've included a specially designed silver and jade bracelet...which wasn't so lucky since I dented in a bicycle accident...but is one of my favorites.  The gold cup with the detox tea is just my little joke.

Lucky Red #3

Another jade dragon but not the same one.  Look closely.  They're reversed.  Three lucky Chinese coins.  This took much more time that I'd anticipated as I was torn between representing the shape of the dragon and getting too detailed with the veins of the jade.
