Intimate Spaces, Beach Series

Artists are voyeurs.  We’re always looking and observing.  This particular series evolved from a recent beach vacation.  I love to people watch and I noticed that as people came to the beach, they staked out their little territories, set up their tents and umbrellas and chairs, and then seemed to act as if they were invisible to everyone else on the beach.  They aren’t, of course.  I enjoyed spending time watching and sketching, photographing and taking notes.  The people come in all shapes and sizes, makes and models.  Even a few birds and other critters.  While the adults seemed to stay in their little domains, the children, of course, made friends with whomever was about.  On a larger scale, this is perhaps the way neighborhoods evolve; children are the ambassadors of the community.
