Hiking in Crawford County

This was a challenge piece where I had to have a specific number of elements.  These were a map, something living (or formerly living), fabric, a box, and something representing my county.  I live in a very rural county with lots of hiking trails, parks, and caves, so I decided to make a still life which focused on those things.  I added the deer skull and bittersweet just as homage to the flora and fauna of the county.  The post cards represent Marengo Cave.  The hiking shoes on their box were fun to do.  The lamp in the setting was added for an additional personal challenge.  I love paintings with interior lights.  Overall, this was a fun challenge painting and provides lots of interest.
