Grand Canyon at Moran Point

I fell in love with the Grand Canyon when I visited a few years ago.  It changes moment by moment, plus there is just so much to see!  

This painting was first captured with some small watercolor sketches which I often use for preliminary work.  Later I worked this up in oil on stretched canvas.  

The soft colors reflect the distances and the many colorful layers of rock.  If you look closely, you’ll see a small rain shower on the North rim.  

I’m heading back there again very soon.  I could paint there for a year and still not run out of something to paint.
